Christmas Tree Farm Family Sessions at Wells Christmas Tree Farm in Norman, Oklahoma
There is something about a Christmas tree farm that instantly slows you down. The smell of pine, rows of trees in every stage of growth, kids running a little freer than usual, and that feeling that you are doing something that will be remembered long after the season passes. That is exactly why Christmas tree farm family photo sessions have quickly become one of my favorite ways to document the holidays.
Last year was my first year photographing families at Wells Christmas Tree Farm in Norman, and truly, they showed out in the best way. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels welcoming and intentional. Acres of land filled with trees, friendly staff ready to help, and a setup that makes you want to stay awhile. It already feels like the kind of place that will become an annual tradition for so many families.
I loved it so much that I was fully influenced. After years of using an artificial tree, I took my own family back to the farm and did the full experience for ourselves. We picked our tree, cut it down, and brought home our very first real Christmas tree. And honestly, I get the hype now.
These sessions can look a few different ways, depending on what you want. You can schedule a traditional Christmas tree farm session for updated family photos or Christmas card photos.
Or you can lean fully into the lifestyle side of things and turn it into an adventure session that documents the entire experience.
Picture this: You walk into the farm and are greeted with picnic tables and lawn size games like jumbo Connect Four and tetherball.
There is space to gather your tree sled and hand saw, and clear instructions from the workers on how to choose and cut your tree.
Once your family cuts it down, the friendly staff takes it to shake out all the bugs and loads it onto your car for you.
While they do that, you head into the coffee shop and grab hot chocolate for the whole crew. You pop into the Christmas store to browse ornaments, gifts, and festive decor.
The charm is truly off the charts cute. And the entire time, I am there quietly documenting it all. The laughs, the decision making, the small moments you do not even realize are happening.
But we do not have to stop there. One of my favorite parts of these sessions is heading back to your house afterward. Decorating the tree together. Pulling ornaments out of boxes. Music playing. Kids helping in their own ways. This is where the story really comes full circle.
These are not just photos for a card. These are real memories. Real time spent together. A chapter of your family story documented in a way that will matter years from now.
