Oklahoma Adventure Photography at Mt. Scott | Couples, Families, and Storytelling Sessions
If you have ever daydreamed about a photo session that feels like a mini getaway, Mt. Scott in Oklahoma might be calling your name.
I recently photographed a couples session up on Mt. Scott in the Wichita Mountains, and it was one of those sessions that reminds me why I love adventure style photography so much. Picture this. A quiet drive up the mountain, big open skies, crisp air, and views that make you slow down without even trying. This could absolutely be you and your people.
One thing I always do before a session is get a feel for you. Your story, your season of life, and what this time means to you. That way, your session does not feel stiff or overly posed. It feels like you. If there is one thing I am always down for, it is an adventure that reflects real connection. Mt. Scott is perfect for that.
Mt. Scott may not be the tallest mountain, and Oklahoma might not be the first place people think of when they hear mountain views, but this spot continues to shine. The Wichita Mountains have a quiet kind of beauty. The kind that invites you to breathe deeper, walk slower, and actually enjoy being together. It is one of my favorite locations for couples photography in Oklahoma and family photo sessions that feel relaxed and meaningful.
For this session, exploring Mt. Scott and the surrounding areas was meaningful for this couple because one of them is temporarily working in Oklahoma for a few months, and as newlyweds, they wanted to celebrate and remember the adventure of Oklahoma and this chapter of their lives.
During this session, there was a lot of hope to spot buffalo roaming nearby. While they did not make an appearance, we were greeted by longhorn cattle at the base of the mountain instead. That is part of the magic of shooting here. Every session feels a little different, and nature always has its own plans.
What I love about Mt. Scott is how versatile it is. Your session could look like hiking along the trails with your kids, stopping to explore rocks and views, or laying out a picnic blanket while the sun starts to dip. It is such a great option for adventure family photography in Oklahoma, especially if your family loves being outdoors and doing things together rather than soley standing still and smiling at the camera.
This area is also full of small town charm and Oklahoma history, which makes it even more special. I always recommend turning your photo session into a full experience. After your session, you could grab a grass fed Texas longhorn burger at Meers Store, a place packed with history and character. Or take a short drive over to Medicine Park, which is one of my favorite nearby spots.
*Pro Tip: extend your session and let me follow you to the next location, documenting real life!
When we visited at the end of November, Medicine Park was already decorated for Christmas. String lights lined the streets, local bands were playing outside, shoppers filled the sidewalks, and it honestly felt like a Hallmark movie town. It was the perfect way to wrap up a session day and make memories beyond just the photos.
If you are looking for an Oklahoma photo session that feels adventurous, meaningful, and true to your family or relationship, Mt. Scott is such a beautiful option. Whether you are a couple wanting something more than a traditional session or a family ready to hike, explore, and picnic together, your session can be more than just photos. It can be a memory you talk about for years.
If that sounds like your kind of session, I would love to help you plan something that feels exactly like you.
