Family Fishing Photo Sessions at Lake Tenkiller | Oklahoma Lifestyle Photography

Some families are lake families at heart.

You know the kind. A generational lake house that has seen decades of summers. A place where time slows down, phones get put away, and everyone knows the rhythm of the day without ever saying it out loud. Mornings with coffee on the dock. Afternoons drifting in and out of the water. Evenings that stretch a little longer because no one is in a rush to be anywhere else.

This family has that kind of place. A true home away from home. A spot where they gather with family, welcome friends who are basically honorary relatives at this point, and return to again and again. So when it came time to plan their family photo session, the answer was obvious. We photographed them where they already are most themselves.

Not every lake session has to be high energy and loud music and kids doing tricks behind the boat. And trust me, I love those sessions too. The ones where the playlist is blasting, everyone is sun soaked, and the day feels electric. But that is not every family. And it does not have to be.

This session was slower. Softer. Just as meaningful.

We cruised the water as the sun started to dip, packed a few snacks, and let the evening unfold. We skipped the shot list and photoshoot timeline and focused on connection. We watched the sunset reflect across the lake, stopped at a favorite dock, and pulled out fishing poles. Sparkly lures came out. Siblings giggled. Conversations overlapped. This is summer.

These photos were taken at Lake Tenkiller, but this kind of session can happen anywhere your heart feels at home. Lake Eufaula. Arcadia Lake. Lake Thunderbird. Or hey, let’s get creative. A sunset photo session on your sailboat at Lake Hefner? Say less. I am in.

What matters most is not where. It is the meaning behind it. The place where your family slows down. Where memories already live. Where being together feels easy.

That is what I want your photos to reflect. Not a version of you that feels staged or rushed, but who you actually are. Whether that looks like jumping waves behind a boat or quietly watching the sun set with a fishing pole in hand.

And yes, you can absolutely book me for a travel session. If your favorite place is outside of Oklahoma City, let’s talk. These are the sessions that feel the most true, and I would love to help you document yours.
