Why You Should Take Photos With Your Friends (Yes, Even While Playing Mahjong)

Here is your gentle nudge to get photos taken with your friends.

Not the perfectly styled, everyone looking at the camera kind. I am talking about the fun ones. The silly ones. The ones that feel like real life and real connection. The kind of photos that end up meaning more to you as time passes.

This friend session came together because one friend was getting ready to move out of state. She wanted a way to stay connected to her people in a way that felt authentic and true to her life. Enter Mahjong.

Yes, Mahjong is currently all the rage. And honestly, for good reason. It is fun, social, and such an easy way to gather people together. For this group of friends, Mahjong had become a rhythm. Families meeting up, kids sent outside to play, and moms settling in around the table to laugh, talk, and play.

As part of this move, she had the sweetest idea. She wanted photos of her and her friends playing Mahjong to create a gallery wall by her Mahjong table in her new home. A way to sit down, shuffle the tiles, and still feel surrounded by her people, even from far away.

The session itself was such a joy. New Year’s Eve inspired, full of laughter, conversation, and moments that did not need to be forced. Friends just being friends. And that is what made it special.

Friend sessions like this are some of my absolute favorites because they remind us that our friendships deserve to be documented too. Not just weddings. Not just babies. But the everyday connections that hold us together.

If you are on the fence, here are three reasons you should book a friend photo session.

1. Friend sessions are actually fun

When you are with your friends, you are already relaxed. You laugh easier. You move naturally. Whether it is Mahjong, cooking together, sipping coffee, or celebrating a season like New Year’s Eve, these sessions feel more like hanging out than a photo shoot.

2. They capture a season you will want to remember

Life changes fast. People move. Kids grow. Schedules shift. Having photos of you and your friends during a specific season becomes more meaningful with time. These images become a reminder of who you were and who walked alongside you.

3. They make the best art for your home

Photos like these are not meant to live on a hard drive. They belong on walls. In albums. In spaces you actually live in. A gallery wall by a Mahjong table. A framed print in your kitchen. A reminder that connection matters.

You do not need a big reason to book a friend session. Sometimes the reason is simply that these people mean something to you. And that is more than enough.

So gather your friends. Pick the thing you love doing together. And let’s document it in a way that feels true to you.
